And as this review is about this app, I’ll leave out the excessive bugs/problems with the QNAP Surveillance Station software, even though it is a necessary part of this whole system. Whats more, the QMobile app can remotely select and play terabytes of compatible multimedia files stored on a QNAP NAS using the new Multimedia Station 2.0, which is included with the new V3.3. And as for live viewing, on an Intel dual-core NAS/NVR, with a wired 1GB network from the NAS/NVR to my iMac (and fast full strength WiFi from the iPad), all with lots of power/resources/bandwidth to spare, there is a delay/lag of about 3.5 secs before you see it on the screen (QVR Client). There is also no motion detection of any kind in the app or the QNAP Surveillance Station, so aside from low-res live viewing, you can only manually record. This app regularly shuts-down/crashes (on an iPad Mini 2 with iOS 9.1), so that kind of defeats the whole point of using it as a reliable surveillance camera (the purpose of this app), even temporarily or for special situations.Īdd to that the fact that, on an iPad a great 5MP camera, this app only sends a 640x480 image (that’s 0.3MP), so very low resolution.
